Beam Reinforcement

In my industrial training period I observed normal beams, Tie beams, support beams, and lintel beam reinforcement. The correct design of a reinforced concrete beam will ensure that it has sufficient strength to resist both the compression and tensile forces encountered in the outer fibers. Normally reinforcement was starting to arrange after placing the bottom plate of the beam formwork.

Beams were horizontal structural members resting on two or more supports. There were three types

Of beams.

  • Simply supported
  • Continuous
  • Cantilever
The method adopted for the arrangement of beam reinforcement was as follows. First, the top most reinforcement bars were hung over the beam formwork, and then the stirrups were placed and bound at correct positions. Thereafter the bottom reinforcement bars were placed and bound to the stirrups. Then the rest of the reinforcement bars and spacer bars were inserted into the cage according to structural drawings. After completing the reinforcement cage, cover blocks were fixed to bottom reinforcements before placing the cage in the beam formwork.
